KyT Food
Products
KyT produces a wide range of natural food products, reflecting the diversity of the natural environment of the Tswapong Hills. Members have all received training in hygiene, food production and quality standards. Further, all products are quality checked by the Trust's staff, both in the village and at the Lerala factory. The KyT label is your assurance of a quality natural product.
Morula
Jelly
The morula fruit is exceptionally
high in vitamin C content. KyT members produce and bottle the jelly in the local
villages before supplying it to the Trust. The jelly captures the delicious
taste of morula and as well as using it like a jam, it is an excellent accompaniment
to game meat. Available in 250ml jars.
Lerotse Jam
Another delicious product, made from
the wild growing lerotse melon, the jam carries a hint of ginger. Available
in 250ml jars.
Morogo
An exceptionally popular product
in Botswana, this vegetable is made from dried bean leaves which are harvested
locally. The label contains recipe suggestions to get the best from the product.
Available in 250g and 500g packs.
Mosata
Tswapong is one of only two known
locations where mosata grows. It is a delicious meat substitute which knocks
the spots off soya meat. We are not currently growing enough to meet the all
year round demand but we are working on it! Available in 330g and 660g packs.
Phane
In December and April, Tswapong is
swarming with the caterpillars from the eggs of the mophane moth. Within a couple
of weeks, they eat the leaves from every mophane tree in the area. Our members
then harvest the caterpillars which form a staple part of the diet for millions
of people in Southern Africa. Phane is very nutritious and can be eaten cold
as a snack or cooked in a sauce for meals. Members have received extensive training
to ensure that KyT phane is among the highest quality phane available in Southern
Africa. Available in 375g and 750g packs.
